The Salem High girls finished 11th in the Group 4A state track meet at Harrisonburg High School last week. There were 37 Group 4A schools that scored out of 53 total schools in the classification.
Salem’s Janae Blakeney won the state championship in the long jump with a season’s best leap of 18’ 2 ¼”. She also placed fifth in the 200 and seventh in the 100 while running on the eighth place 4×400 relay team with Tawni Hunt, Ellie Look and Raniyah Majied.
ShaCoya Price was fifth in the long jump while Hannah Moran finished eighth in the 1,600. Salem’s 4×100 team of TeAsia Thomas, Hunt, TeArah Thomas and Price ran their best time of the season but did not place.
For the boys, Sean Tyree finished eighth in the 400 meter dash for Salem’s only point of the meet. Loudoun Valley won the boys’ title and E.C. Glass was the girls’ champ.
