The Salem High swimmers competed in the Bruin Invitational in Blacksburg Saturday in a meet that included 13 schools. The Salem girls took third and the boys were fourth in a very challenging meet.

For the girls, McKenna Habeeb took a second and Georgia Brown was eighth overall in the 100 Free, with both swimming their best times. Sandy James was fifth in the 100 Fly, dropping three seconds off her best time. Jodi Berroteran dropped three seconds off her 100 Back time.

Anna Clair Fleenor swam a state qualifying time in the 100 Breast and swam on the winning 400 Free Relay team with Habeeb, James and Ellyn Anama. That team also qualified for state.

For the boys, Ben James was sixth in the 100 Fly with a personal best time of 56.61. The 200 Free Relay teams for both the boys and girls finished second.

Salem’s next meet will be on January 4 at 7:30 pm, and it will be the last home meet of the season and “Senior Night” for the Spartans as they take on Lord Botetourt, Northside and Hidden Valley
