The Salem High girls improved to 6-3-1 with a 4-1 win over Christiansburg on Tuesday at Spartan Field.
Salem got two goals each from Lily Barnes and Mallory Edwards, and Edwards also had an assist. Evyn Magenbauer had an assist as well.
Christiansburg scored in the first minute of play to take an early lead, but Salem dominated after that. The Spartans outshot the Demons, 21-5.
Last Friday at home Salem defeated visiting Patrick Henry, 2-0. Ellie Laub scored off an assist from Rachel Massey and Magenbauer assisted Barnes for the other goal. Salem outshot the Patriots, 20-3.
Tuesday’s game was the first of a stretch of five games in eight days for the Spartans. Salem was home to Pulaski on Wednesday, but results were too late for publication. On Friday the Spartans are at Hidden Valley, and Monday they go to Pulaski for a makeup game. Last week the Spartans drove all the way to Dublin but never got off the bus due to the shooter who was at large in the Pulaski County area.
“We drove down there and back and ended up practicing on our own field,” said coach Josh Jones.
Next Tuesday, May 8, Salem will play at Blacksburg in a big River Ridge District game. The Bruins defeated Salem in the first meeting, 1-0, and this year Blacksburg has joined the Spartans in Class 4 so these two teams could easily meet again in the post-season.
