Both Salem and Glenvar entered athletes in the East Coast Elite “Around the World” Invitational track meet last Saturday. The meet was held at the Kerr-Cregger Fieldhouse at Roanoke College.
“It was good to be back on the track after winter break, and we look forward to the next few weeks,” said Glenvar coach Bekka Loder. “The athletes had a great day setting eight new personal records, six season’s bests and two state-qualifying times.
Glenvar took first in the girls’ 4×200 with Meena Chen, Kallie McDonald, Anna Hall and Aiden Beverly. The 4×400 foursome of Hall, McDonald, Rayya Bryson and Beverly was second.
Joey Loder took two seconds for Glenvar. He had a season’s best time of 36.42 to take second in the 300 dash and also was runner-up in the 55 hurdles.
Aldin Smith was fourth in the boys’ 3,200 with a state qualifying time of 10:19.10. Beverly took fifth in the girls 300 dash with a state qualifying time of 44.64. Evan Harris had a new PR in the boys’ 500, finishing fifth, and the Glenvar boys’ 4×400 team of Will Howard, Jackson Wimmer, Asher Fought and Harris took sixth.
For Salem, the boys’ 4×200 team of Nicolas Baxley, Tristen Noel, Aedon Wiley and DaVon Jones was second and the girls’ 4×800 relay of McKenzie Eversole, Addison Hancock, Oliva Huff and Audrey Harmon ran a season’s best time to finish third. Eversole was also fifth in the 1,600.
For the boys, Jones took third in the 55 hurdles, Ciril Fergens was third in the 55 dash and Wiley was sixth in the 55 dash.
The Spartans will be back at Roanooke College this Saturday for a meet at the Cregger Center while Glenvar’s team will compete at Liberty University this weekend.
