The Salem and Glenvar swimmers were scheduled to meet on Wednesday of this week at the Salem YMCA, but results were too late for publication. The meet was originally scheduled for Tuesday but moved back a day due to inclement weather.
Wednesday’s meet was the first of the season for Glenvar. Salem hit the pool last week at the Salem Y against William Fleming, Roanoke Catholc and Hidden Valley. The boys swept all three while the girls beat Fleming and Catholic but came up short against Hidden Valley.
“The team did an amazing job for their first meet of the season,” said coach Christen King. “Lots of fast swims and first or second place finishes.”
Salem’s men’s 200 free and 200 medley relay consisting of Carter Biscotte, Jack Lawrence, Riley Handy and Starke Griffith came in first place. The girls 200 free relay came in first place consisting of Layla Vaught, Gracie Michael, Aubrey Snead, and Riley Miller.
Individually Ayden Tyson finished 1st in the 100 back, Lawrence finished 1st in the 100 fly and 500 free, Biscotte finished 1st in 100 free and 50 free, Griffith finished 1st in the 200 free and Handy finished 1st in the 200 IM and 100 breast. Riley Miller finished 2nd in the 50 free and 200 IM and Aubrey Snead finished 1st in the 100 free.
