The Salem High golfers teed it up for the first time in competition Monday with a round at the Roanoke Country Club. The Spartans finished third in a River Ridge District match won by Blacksburg.

Salem had a score of 328 for the round, led by a 75 by Macy Johnson. Trey Joyce had 78, Alex Rea had 86 and Hunter King rounded out the scoring with an 89.

Blacksburg shot a 309 to win, followed by Cave Spring a stroke back at 310. Hidden Valley followed Salem with a 332 for fourth place.

“It was a windy day and the greens were fast,” said Salem coach Thad Snyder. “We need to make some adjustments to play at this time of the  year.”

The Spartans are at Thorn Springs in Pulaski next Monday, March 15.
