Salem High was the site of a middle school-high school wrestling doubleheader last week.
Andrew Lewis Middle School and Salem High both took on Northside opponents.
Lewis opened against the middle school Norsemen and won 59-30. Riley Rutledge, Landon Gutherie and Hunter English all got pins in the match, but some of the best wrestling came in matches that were decisions. Kyman Kinney, Alijah Morris, Tre Boyd, and Ethan Sheldon had very good matches that showed great improvement.
Salem High then lost to Northside, 40-38, after leading for virtually the entire match. It took pins by Vikings in the last two matches to pass the Spartans for the win.
The Spartans were weathered out of the Alleghany Duals last weekend, and on Wednesday of this week Salem was scheduled to host Glenvar in a dual match. It was the Highlanders first scheduled event since the holiday break.
This weekend Glenvar will wrestle in a tournament at Chatham High, a 10 team event with a dual format. Salem is off until the Big Blue Classic in Christiansburg on January 20 and 21.
