Generals get a win over Maroon women

Taylor Casey led four Washington and Lee players in double-figures as the visiting Generals topped the Roanoke College women in basketball, 93-75, on a snowy Saturday afternoon in Salem.

W&L jumped to a 34-27 lead with 4:34 to go in the half and would go on a 10-2 run to push its lead to 44-29 with 1:51 to play. Roanoke battled back with by scoring eight of the final 12 points of the half to send the teams to the locker room with W&L leading, 48-37.

The Generals would put the game away by starting the third quarter with a 12-2 run. Cary Beahm posted a double-double for the Maroons with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Bridget Holleran had 12 points, while Chris Martin and Allison Livengood each came off the bench to score 16 and 14 points, respectively.

The loss was RC’s fourth in a row and dropped the Maroons under .500 at 6-7. The Maroons are 1-3 in the ODAC.

Roanoke was at Guilford on Wednesday, and on Saturday the Maroons will host Bridgewater at 2 pm at the Cregger Center.
