Seven Salem High School students qualified for state competition in eight events this year through the school’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter, with five earning top-five finishes. The school board recognized the students and their adviser, Gary Lupton, at its May meeting last week. Salem was the only chapter in the region to place in three separate events — a notable achievement for one of the smaller chapters competing. In the individual event of Data Science & AI, Vivian Eaton finished fifth, earning her the designation of first alternate for nationals. Eaton also competed on the Data Analysis team alongside Andis Hamden and Carter Biscotte, where the trio placed fourth and qualified for the national competition. In the individual event of Introduction to Business Communications, David Vuddandam earned second place, also advancing to nationals.
