The Salem High girls will get their first big test of the season Friday when they host Patrick Henry in basketball for their River Ridge District opener. The Spartans are 2-0 after two lopsided wins, including a 58-11 rout of Northside last week in the Vikings’ gym.
“Very good defensive effort on the road,” said Salem coach Scott Jester. “We did a good job of forcing some turnovers and turning them into easy baskets.”
Gabby Crawley led Salem with 16 points and seven rebounds. Bailey Rider had 10 points, eight steals and six boards.
The Spartans were scheduled to play at Franklin County on Monday but that game was snowed out and yet to be rescheduled at press time. Next Tuesday they go to Lord Botetourt after hosting PH Friday, the Patriots are 1-1 with a loss to William Fleming and a win over Albemarle.
