The Salem High lacrosse teams will have big games this Saturday when both the girls and boys both take on Monticello. The girls will host Monticello at Spartan Field at 11 am, followed by a boys’ game at 1 pm.

Both teams had big wins in the past week. The Salem girls beat Albemarle on Monday, 9-8, to remain undefeated on the season at 6-0. Salem was down 5-4 at the half but rallied to win.

“We played frazzled in the first half,” said coach Maggie Pace. “We took 15 shots, so the opportunities were there, we just had poor shot selection.”

Salem scored the first three goals of the second half and went on to win. Lilly Blair led the scoring with five goals along with two assists and six draw controls. Libby Bowman had two goals and two assists.  Kara Yates had a goal and two assists and Madi Caldwell had a goal.  Alla Daniel also added to the control of the game with four draw controls.  Charity Hall forced 10 turnovers, Danielle Rich had four and  Maddie Bowman tallied 12 saves.

The boys had a big win over Liberty  Christian Academy in Lynchburg last Friday, 12-4. Zach Mason had three goals and two assists, Cayden Butt had two and two, Evan McMillan had two goals and an assist and Trenty Cheyney had a goal and four assists.

“It was a good team win,” said coach Daniel Dyer. “I was glad to see us move the ball on offense. The majority of our goals came off of an assist. We were able to posses the ball with Cheyney winning the faceoffs. We have to continue to get better on both offense and defense. I look forward to see our growth as the season continues.”

With the win the boys improved to 4-2. Both teams played at Patrick Henry Wednesday but results were too late for publication.
