The Salem High softball team defeated Glenvar in a border rivalry game Tuesday at Glenvar High. Salem took a 10-0 win to even their record at 2-2 while Glenvar lost for the first time, falling to 3-1.
Cora Robinson pitched for the Spartans and held Glenvar to three hits in a six inning shutout effort, fanning a dozen. Spartan leadoff hitter Caitlin Wells led Salem with three hits in four at bats and freshman Evie Van Liew went two-for-four with a homerun and a double. Van Liew finished with three RBIs on the night and sophomore Piper Furmage drove in two.
Glenvar’s Abby Teubert took the loss on the mound giving up nine hits and striking out five. Teubert, Zella Hayes, and Haley Leginus had Glenvar’s three hits.
The Highlanders are back in action today with their Three Rivers District opener at Patrick County. Salem will host William Byrd in a jayvee-varsity doubleheader at the Moyer Complex on Friday night with the jayvees at 5 pm and the varsity to follow.
