Salem’s Alex Light, an All-American lineman at the University of Richmond, has signed a free agent contract to try out for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League.
Light was a standout athlete at Salem High, competing on state contending football teams and also playing on a state basketball championship team. He went on to the University of Richmond, where he was a three year starter on the line at multiple positions.
Light anchored an offensive line that helped the Spiders lead the CAA in passing yards (341.0 ypg) and total offense (452.7 ypg) in 2018. He finished his career making 38 consecutive starts and played two positions for Richmond this year. He was named third team All-American by the Phil Steele group.
