It was a long and sometimes wet day in Harrisonburg last week when the Salem High track team competed in the Region 4D meet at Eastern Mennonite University. The Salem boys finished fifth and the girls were 13th as the Charlottesville boys and Blacksburg girls took team titles.
The top eight in each event scored and the top four qualified for this weekend’s state meet. The Class 3 and 4 meet will be held at Liberty University in Lynchburg on Friday and Saturday.
For the boys, DaVon Jones won the 110 hurdles in 15.39 and also was third in the 300 hurdles, with Nicholas Baxley taking fifth in that event. Aiden Wiley was third in the 200 and fifth in the 100. In the 400, Tristen Noel was fourth, Nazeser Miller was seventh and Keenan Helm was eighth.
In the relay events the team of Austin Prosser, John Stovall, Isaac Snow and Thomas Scharp placed fourth in the 4×800. In the 4×100 Baxley, Ji’zaiah Johnson, Fergens Ciril and Wiley took sixth.
In the field events Jayden Wood took third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Phoenix Brown was seventh in the discus.
For the girls, Olivia Huff and Audrey Harmon were sixth and seventh in the 400 meters and both ran on relay teams that placed. The 4×800 was fifth with McKenzie, Olivia Huff, Caroline Huff and Harmon, breaking their 10 day old school record with a time of 10:08.33. The 4×400 team of Huff, Huff, Addison Hancock and Harmon was eighth.
