Salem’s Cora Robinson pitches against William Byrd at the Moyer Complex Friday.

Cora Robinson pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Salem High girls to a 4-0 win over Cave Spring Tuesday at the James I. Moyer Complex.

Robinson was nearly untouchable, recording 15 strikeouts among the 21 outs. Cora recently returned to the lineup after a rib injury and hit the ground running, finishing out the Byrd game with a couple scoreless innings last Friday in her return to the circle.

In Tuesday’s win over Cave Spring Caitlin Wells went two-for-four with a double and a run scored, while Robinson was two-for-three with an RBI. Piper Furmage and Evie Van Liew both had hits as well.

Last Friday the Spartans lost a tough one to William Byrd under the Moyer Complex lights, 1-0. Cora Grace Sparger threw five and a third innings, giving up only three hits and no earned runs with six strikeouts before Robinson finished up. Robinson had two hits and Wells and Furmage had one each but the Spartans weren’t able to cross the plate against Byrd pitcher Addison Clark.

Salem is now 2-3 and the Spartans are at Blacksburg Friday followed by a home game with Glenvar at the Moyer Complex on Monday.
