Several assistant principals move to new schools, four new AP’s named

The Roanoke County School Board has announced administrative changes, effective July 1, including naming four new assistant principals.

Christian Kish has been selected as the new assistant principal at the Burton Center for Arts & Technology.  He joined Roanoke County Public Schools in 2001 and left in 2011 to become the vice principal the Rivermont School.  Kish holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Liberty University and a Master’s Degree in educational leadership from Virginia Tech.  In addition, the board announced the following administrative reappointments:

  • Haley Deeds, current assistant principal the Burton Center for Arts & Technology, will become a new assistant principal at Cave Spring High School.
  • Holly Wakeland, current assistant principal at Northside Middle School, will become the new assistant principal Glenvar Middle School.
  • Corie Franklin, current assistant principal at Glenvar Middle School, will become the new assistant principal at Glenvar High School.
  • Sonya Cline, current assistant principal at Glenvar High School, will become a new assistant principal at Hidden Valley Middle School.

Additionally, Joe Hafey, soon-to-be-retired principal from Glenvar High School, will serve for one year as the principal at the Burton Center for Arts & Technology.  Hafey replaces Jason Suhr who will continue to serve as the Director of Career and Technical Education.

“Leadership development is an ongoing, important responsibility of the school board and the superintendent,” said Roanoke County Public Schools Chairman Tim Greenway.  “It is our task to make sure we have the best leadership available in each of our schools.  From time to time, we need to move our school leaders so that they can effectively serve the students and staff and, at the same time, continue to expand their own leadership skills so that that they can possibly take on even larger leadership roles in the future,” Greenway said.
