Wayne Allen Shelor, 86, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Houston and Irene Ridinger Shelor; brothers, Robert Jackson (Jack) Shelor and wife, Madeline, Frank Shelor and wife, Jean, Harvey Shelor, Harold Shelor and wife, Doris.

Left to cherish his memory are former wife, Patsy Shelor; children, Leslie S. Whitman, Julie S. Richardson, Jennifer S. Lamberth, John W. Shelor, and all their spouses; brother, Sherman Lee Shelor and wife, Betty; grandchildren, Ashleigh Shelor, Connor Shelor, Davis Shelor, and Dylan Lamberth; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extend family.

Wayne served as an Airman First Class in the Koran War and was honorably discharged February 27, 1955. He loved playing golf and the sport of horse racing. Wayne was an excellent athlete in many sports including golf, football, basketball, and tennis. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. with military honors at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, 540-389-5441.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either of the following charities: St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate or Air Force Aid Society at www.afas.org. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmaoakey.com.
