Venture on into the swamp alongside some popular characters as Salem High School Drama prepares its production of the year, “Shrek the Musical Jr.” This play is based on the popular Dreamworks Animated Production of “Shrek” and the book by William Steig. Music by Jeanine Tesori, and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire.

Follow the adventures of the big green, angry ogre of Far-Far Away, Shrek, as he appears from the swamp to the stage. Lord Farquaad’s latest corrupt laws have sent all fairy-tale characters into the depths of Shrek’s swamp. Shrek and his new best companion Donkey take on the challenge of rescuing Princess Fiona to get Shrek’s swamp back from the rest of the fairy-tale creatures. Follow Shrek’s adventure to rescue Princess Fiona and obtain the deed to his swamp as the characters attempt to live happily ever after.

“I am so very proud of the work and creativity that each individual has brought to this production. They work so hard to make this production the best that it could be,” Alexandra Schmitt Easterling, Salem High School theatre director, said. “I want to thank everyone involved for their enthusiasm, dedication and passion that helped to make this production very special! I am so very excited to share with the community the final product!”

Shows run from March 9-11 in the Salem High School Auditorium. There are only three showings of this production, one each day at 7 p.m. Tickets for general admission are $10 and are sold at the door. For any more information on the production, contact Alexandra Schmitt Easterling.
