The Salem Red Sox won four of six games at Kannapolis last week to pull into a tie for the second and final playoff spot in the Low-A East baseball playoffs. Salem is back home this week for a big six game series with Lynchburg.
The North Division leading Sox went into last week’s series trailing Central Division leader Carolina by two games for the second and final playoff spot in the Low-A East League. Charleston, the South Division leader, is running away with the top spot with a 54-23 record.
Last week, while Salem was going 4-2, Carolina was dropping four of six at Lynchburg, and at the end of the week both teams were 46-32 with 42 games remaining on the schedule. Also battling for the second spot are Delmarva and Down East, both just two and a half games behind Salem and Carolina with 43-34 records.
Salem lost the first game of the series at Kannapolis last week, 8-7, but bounced back to win the next three by scored of 6-4, 11-4 and 8-2. Salem lost on Saturday night, 7-3, but took the getaway game Sunday, 6-2. Salem pulled away with three runs in the top of the ninth on a three-run homer by Antoni Flores to break open a close game.
The Sox opened the six game series with Lynchburg on Tuesday. This week’s promotions include Beach Night on Thursday and a Xander Bogaerts Bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,000 fans on Saturday evening.
