The Salem Red Sox are back on your radio dial. The Sox have announced that their games will return to terrestrial radio in the 2017 season, airing live on ESPN Roanoke (1240 AM WGMN).
The station will carry the live broadcasts of all 140 regular season home and road games, as well as the 2017 Carolina League All-Star Game on June 20 at LewisGale Field. Red Sox broadcaster Ben Gellman will take fans inside the game with comprehensive coverage of the team throughout the 2017 Carolina League season.
“Last season, we made a concerted effort to survey our fans and ask how we can improve the Red Sox experience,” Red Sox President and General Manager Ryan Shelton said. “One big thing we kept hearing was that fans wanted the Salem Sox to return to broadcast radio. With that directive from the fan base, we worked with our friends at ESPN 1240 to make this return possible. We are grateful and excited to rekindle this relationship.”
“Baseball broadcasts on the radio are a great tradition that many of us grew up with,” 3 Daughters Media Chief Operating Officer Rich Roth said. “ESPN Radio in Virginia is thrilled that the fans want their games back on the radio, and we are thrilled to renew our partnership with the Salem Red Sox and help them give the fans what they want.”
Fans will be able to enjoy the sounds of Salem Red Sox baseball all season long, as Gellman brings his years of broadcasting experience to the airwaves for Salem. In addition to the strong radio footprint of ESPN Roanoke, the stream of the broadcast can be accessed at SalemSox.com.
In additon, the Sox have announced a new radio partnership with ESPN Blacksburg, bringing the sounds of Red Sox baseball to even more fans in southwest Virginia and beyond. The station will carry the live broadcasts of all 140 regular season home and road games, as well as the 2017 Carolina League All-Star Game.
“Our fans kept telling how much they value having us on radio, and we’re thrilled to expand our reach with this new partnership,” said Shelton “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with ESPN Blacksburg to expand our reach to the many dedicated fans in the New River Valley.”
