The Salem High girls remained undefeated in lacrosse with two more wins in the past week. The Spartans are 11-0 after beating Franklin County, 14-1, and Jefferson Forest, 15-4.

Last Wednesday in Rocky Mount Lilly Blair, Libby Mowman and Madi Caldwell had three goals each to lead the Spartans.  Blair also had two assists and Alla Daniel had six draw controls to go with two goals. On defense, Charity Hall forced four turnovers while Makenzie Redding and Maggie Crute had two each.

“We were about even with Franklin County last year, so we were surprised the game wasn’t closer,” said Salem coach Maggi Pace. “Our zone defense was a huge factor as Franklin County was only able to get off three shots.”

On Saturday night at Spartan Field Blair had six goals, two assists and four draw controls while Caldwell had five goals and two assists. Kara Yates and Libby Bowman had two goals each while Maddie Bowman had 10 saves in the goals.

Salem is now off until Monday, when the Spartans host Patrick Henry at 6 pm.

“We have the whole week off before we face PH,” said Pace. “It should be an intense rivalry game, but I hope the score will be a bigger spread than the first matchup.”
