Salem’s Addila Athuman placed fifth in the 55m hurdles in a time of 10.27 at Blacksburg’s Polar Bear meet on Saturday.

It was a little chilly but the meet went on last week as Blacksburg hosted a “Polar Bear” track meet for 14 area schools. Salem High competed in the meet, won the Pulaski County girls and the host Blacksburg boys.

The Salem girls finished seventh and points were scored by Mia Cromer with a second in high jump, Emma Chamberland with a second in 1,600, Raniyah Majied with a third in 500 and the 4 x 800 relay team of Chamberland, Alexis Stover, Samantha Richardson and Sarah Ahlers, who placed third.

Salem’s Mia Cromer placed second in the high jump with a clearance of 4-10 at Blacksburg on Saturday.

For the boys the 4×800 relay placed third overall with the team of Adam Warren, Benji Ashwell, Benjiman Rowland, and Elijah Hairston. Gaven Conner just missed placing in the top six in the 1000 with a seventh place finish but ran his best time of the season.  He also ran a best in the 500.

Salem’s next meet is the regional on February 13. Glenvar was off last week, returning for their regional on February 10.
