Salem quarterback Jack Gladden gets good protection as he looks for a receiver against Patrick Henry.

The Salem High football team will head into their bye week with a winning record for the first time in almost a month.

It’s a good time for the 4-3 Spartans to take off, as they’re be beset by injuries after beating Patrick Henry last Friday night, 42-21, at Salem Stadium. Salem lost two starters by the half last Friday, as workhorse runningback Isaiah Persinger went out with a possible concussion and cornerback Jayden McDonald injured his leg. Magenbauer got good news on both a couple days later.

“We thought Jayden might have broken his leg but x-rays showed it wasn’t broken, just sprained,” said Magenbauer. “We’re hoping to have him back in a couple weeks, and we think Isaiah will be just fine.”
