Spartans host CC meet at Golf Course next week

The Salem High cross country team hopes to be up to par next Wednesday when the Spartans host a home meet at the Salem Municipal Golf Course.  All the River Ridge District schools are invited.

The Spartans hosted a meet at the golf course on Academy Street last season and it proved to be quite popular. The runners navigate around the nine hole course and finish up near the clubhouse. The race is scheduled to begin at 3 pm.

Salem was scheduled to open this week with a race at Patrick Henry High School on Wednesday, but results were too late for publication.

Glenvar has yet to run a meet. Last year the Highlanders participated in the meet at the Golf Course but under new COVID rules the Virginia High School League has mandated that only four schools can participate in a meet unless they are all district schools. Since Salem has invited all the River Ridge schools to next week’s meet that leaves Glenvar out.

The Highlanders are now scheduled to open next Wednesday at Giles in a four-team Three Rivers District meet with James River, Carroll County and host Giles.
