The Salem High football team will host E.C. Glass this Friday night to open the 2025 high school season. Game time is 7 pm at Salem Stadium.
The always tough Hilltoppers are coming off a 5-6 season that saw them lose to GW-Danville in the first round of the Region 4D playoffs last season, 24-7. Jamar Lovelace is in his third year as head coach after coaching at William Fleming for the previous five years.
“They’re well-coached, coach Lovelace does a great job,” said Salem coach Don Holter. “They’re a typical Glass team. They have good size and we’re going to have to be at our best.”
Salem wrapped up the preseason with a 28-20 win over Amherst County in a benefit game in Amherst last Thursday. Jordan McCadden rushed for 55 yards on nine carries and had two touchdowns for the Spartans. Tanner Overstreet was seven for 11 passing for 55 yards, finding Nazir Ward three times for 31 yards. Overstreet also ran for 67 yards on nine carries with a long run of 20 yards.
“The kids played hard and showed some resilience,” said Holter. “I saw some good and some bad. There’s nothing that can’t be corrected.”
The Salem jayvees will open tonight in Lynchburg.
