The Salem Spartans will finally get the baseball season started with two home games this week. Salem was scheduled to play under the lights at Billy Sample Field on Wednesday against E.C. Glass and Friday against Magna Vista.

Both are doubleheaders with the jayvees, with an estimated starting time of 7 pm. Next Monday the Spartans will return the trip to Glass for a jayvee-varsity doubleheader, then host Glenvar for a 5:30 pm April Fool’s Day game at 5:30 pm.

“I’m excited for the 2025 season,” said Salem coach Jimmy Winterer. “We have a very ath-letic group with a high baseball IQ. They spent a lot of time together in the offseason, building strength in the weight room.”

Three seniors will lead Salem on the mound this year, Trace Monroe, Carter Black and Keegan Craighead. Zach Bocock will likely find his way in the rotation as well as several other experienced junior pitchers.
The Spartan offense looks to score a lot of runs with a speedy lineup that can hit for power and contact. Senior Thomas Millard will lead the Spartan defense from behind the plate and will be a big bat in the lineup.

“With four seniors and a large, experienced junior class we look to win the District and make a deep run in the regional playoff,” said Winterer.
