The Salem and Glenvar tennis teams went head-to-head on Monday with Salem coming out on top in both. The Salem boys beat Glenvar, 6-3, on the SHS courts and the Spartan girls took a 9-0 win at Glenvar.

Salem and Glenvar split the singles matches. Salem took the top three spots with Drew Perez, Logan Butcher and Chance Long but Glenvar took spots four through six with Chaitanya Gohill, Christian Hill and Liam Paxton. In all three cases Glenvar won the first set, Salem won the second and the Highlanders won 10 point tie-breakers to tie the match after the singles.

Salem then swept the doubles with the teams of Perez-Butcher, Long-Adam Burr and Jack Dixon-Evan Graybill.

“Salem proved resilient in doubles as Drew and Logan stayed unbeaten at the top spot,” said Salem coach Steve Lily. “It looks like we can expect another close match when the teams meet again on May 14th.”

“I was happy with our play in spots but we had to play better tennis to have a chance against a team like Salem,” said Glenvar coach Bob Haynie.

Salem swept the series with Glenvar with Monday’s win. Winning singles for the Salem girls were Claire Rawlins, Caroline Loveday, Mira Makked, Josephine Eaton, Elisa Nguyen and Diya Patel.
