The Glenvar Middle School football team drew first blood but after that it was all Cave Spring in last week’s season opener at Highlander Stadium. The visiting Squires took a 44-14 win over Glenvar in Highlander coach Raysean Priest’s debut.
“We ran up against a very tough and well-coached Cave Spring team,” said Priest. “This wasn’t the start we were looking for, but the game showed us where we need to improve.”
Offensively, Kayden Williams ran the ball very well and gave Glenvar some strong carries throughout the game. Defensively, Raylan Franklin led the team with multiple tackles and had a solid performance.
“We’ll get back to work this week and focus on making those improvements as we prepare for our next opponent,” said Priest.
The Highlanders are scheduled to host Floyd County today at 6:30 p.m..
