Glenvar High graduate Rhett Henderson and Salem grad Keegan Craighead will be participating in “The Last Inning” baseball game on Saturday at 4 pm at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The game is sponsored by the Salem-Roanoke Baseball Hall of Fame and the Salem Red Sox Carolina League team. Players eligible for the game are seniors from the Class of 2025 who went to a high school within the boundaries of the area served by the local Hall of Fame.

This is the sixth annual “The Last Inning” game. It was initiated in 2020 by the Hall of Fame and Red Sox when the spring baseball season was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic. It proved to be popular and it was decided to make it an annual event. There have been one or two games, usually in late July or early August, depending on the number of players signed up to play. This year there will be one nine inning game beginning at 4 pm with a break after the fourth inning to announce the winner of the Ray Bellamy Award, an annual award given by the Salem-Roanoke Hall of Fame to the high school Player of the Year.

This year 26 players have signed up for the game. Henderson and Craighead will play on the “Blue” team with teammates from Lord Botetourt, Christiansburg, Blacksburg and Auburn. The “Red” team consists of players from Northside, William Byrd, Staunton River and Liberty High.

There is no admission charge for spectators.
