The community development department with the city of Salem recently offered an update on the work being done to Main Street, specifically the Thompson Memorial to College Avenue and College to Market sections.
Thompson Memorial to College Avenue section:
- The North sidewalk has reopened to pedestrians and is substantially complete. It is only awaiting streetlight poles.
- The South sidewalk demolition and concrete work is underway with underground electrical and irrigation work to follow.
College to Market section:
- North sidewalk curb and conduit work are completed, and brick laying is almost finished.
- South sidewalk work will commence after demolition to the east, but not before the north side is walkable.
- Intersection/signal work at Main/Market will begin in mid-August.
