Fundraiser for Salem Educational Foundation’s Amy Daulton Scholarship

A sidesplitting night of professional entertainment is coming to Roanoke by way of New York City and Los Angeles on Saturday, July 8. Proceeds from the non-stop night of comedy will benefit the Salem Educational Foundation and Alumni Association scholarship that honors talented 1990 Salem High School graduate, Amy Daulton, who passed away in 2015.

After leaving Salem, Daulton went on to become a stand-up and improv comedian, based both in Los Angeles and New York City. She delighted audiences with her unique combination of sharp wit and great physical comedy talent. Among her many credits was an appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Christy McBrayer, who was one of Daulton’s closest friends in the comedy world, is headlining the evening with her one-woman show, Southern Fried Chickie.

“The minute Amy and I met performing together at the Comedy Store, we bonded by being Southern women in the Los Angeles comedy scene,” says McBrayer. “She was one of the funniest, most talented and loving people I have ever known.”

Four of Daulton’s friends and stand-up comedy colleagues are also coming from New York to open the show. They include Omar Capra (new “Spider Man” movie) Courtney Maginnis (Brooklyn Comedy Festival and new horror movie “Cherry Bomb), Shelley Hamilton (She Devil Comedy Festival) and Matthew Kelly (Stand- up NY).

McBrayer’s 10-character, one-woman show Southern Fried Chickie will add gravy to those performances with the help of some local players. Her “Red Neck Greek Chorus” will consist of local Salem musicians Henry “Brad” Bradley, Allan Davidson and Joey Poarch. Variety has touted the show as “an impressive array”, “hilarious” by Los Angeles Weekly, and compared to Greater Tuna by NOLA.com (New Orleans). The Austin Chronicle said, “Larry the Cable Guy has met his match in a busty blonde Tupelo, Mississippi princess.” For more check out: www.southernfriedchickie.com

“Comedians from all across the country are donating their time and talent to perform in honor of my late sister, and we’d love to pack the house and raise money for this great cause,” says Daulton’s sister, Brea Hatt.

The show is at Holiday Inn Valley View at 3315 Ordway Dr NW, Roanoke, VA 24017 Saturday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 single -$40 couple and are available at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2962318. $30 cash per person at the door.

For advance material, please contact Christy McBrayer (512)-739-7772 or mcbrayerflairpr@gmail.com.
