The high school volleyball season is almost here, as Salem and Glenvar will both open the 2023 season on Tuesday, August 22. Glenvar will open defense of their 2022 state Class 2 championship with a home match against Giles. The Highlanders will trying for a “three-peat” this fall after winning the state for the past two years. They’ll scrimmage at home against Auburn tonight in their final tune-up for the season. Salem will open on the road next Tuesday at Roanoke Catholic.

The Spartans hosted a volleyball jamboree on August 5 with scrimmages against William Byrd, Rustburg and Western Albermarle. The middle school volleyball season opens this week. Andrew Lewis was scheduled to host Pulaski Middle on Tuesday and Blacksburg today at 5 pm. Glenvar Middle was scheduled to open on Wednesday of this week at home against Central Academy. Look for previews of the Salem and Glenvar High varsity teams in next week’s edition of the Salem Times-Register.
