WEBB SIGHTING

I got so wrapped up in talking about my new headshot last week that to give you a 19th hole question. So, before I forget, this week’s 19th Hole is to predict the score of the game between Dinwiddie and Salem at Salem Stadium Friday night. Put your score in the space provided and the closest to the actual score will get a free day of golf at the Salem Municipal Course on Academy Street.

Since I didn’t give you a 19th hole question last week I’m going to give the free day of golf to “Radio Ron” Myers. He filled in his entry blank with Bug Tussle 45, Slippery Rock 44 and that made me laugh, and if you can make me laugh we’ll give you a day of golf on the sand greens.

And you know there really is a Bug Tussle, I looked it up. Bug Tussle, Texas is known for its quirky name, its tiny population of about 15 people and the frequent theft of its highway signs by souvenir seekers. I knew about Slippery Rock because Mel Hankinson coached basketball there before coming to Salem to ruin the Roanoke College program before Ed Green revived it.

Enough of that, let’s get to this week’s winner. After a perfect score in week one and a one-loss winner in week two, this week’s winner missed three games and got in on the points, which was just 45 by both Salem and the University of Tennessee. That entry came from Connie Webb, who was 9-1 before Sunday and then missed Minnesota over Green Bay and the Giants over Dallas in the always tough pro games. A couple others also missed three but Connie was closest on the points so she gets the $50 gift certificate from Mac & Bob’s this week. How do you like those tomatoes?

On a lighter note, if you checked the Roanoke Times panel I had the best record last week, missing just four games out of 25. I’m still in last place but hoping to make a move again this week. Anyone know if Atlantic Shores Christian is any good?
