The Andrew Lewis and Glenvar Middle School teams went head-to-head last week in four sports with Lewis winning two and two ending up in a tie.
Lewis won the baseball game, 11-1, at Green Hill Park as the Wolverines put eight on the board in the second inning. Landon Bell picked up the win on the mound, allowing no earned runs and fanning five.
Lewis also won the girls’ soccer game, 2-0 at Lewis. Emily Wise scored a first half goal and Mackenzie Manns had a second half goal for the Wolverines.
The boys’ soccer game ended in a 2-2 tie. Marcos Herrera scored both goals for Lewis and Glenvar scored off two corner kicks. Will George scored a first half goal and Kiptyn Jones found the net in the final minute of the game to earn the tie.
In softball Glenvar jumped to an early seven run lead but Lewis battled back to tie the game at 9-9. After being pulled earlier in the game Glenvar pitcher Sawyer Martin came in and struck out the side on just 10 pitches to end the game in a tie due to the time limit.
Lewis teams also played Hidden Valley last week. The baseball team was leading the Eagles when the game was called due to inclement weather. The softball team got their game in as Kaylee Crosswhite pitched Lewis to a 6-3 win.
In soccer the boys won 2-1 over Hidden Valley on goals by Gavin Hancock and Herrera. The girls won 4-0 behind two goals and an assist from Lilian Richerson.
Games scheduled for Monday of this week were postponed due to inclement weather. Today Lewis teams will meet Cave Spring and Glenvar teams will take on William Byrd. Next week all middle school sports are off for spring break.
