
The Andrew Lewis Middle School 8th grade football team improved their record to 4-1-1 on the season with two shutout wins in the past week. The Wolverines took a 46-0 victory over William Byrd Middle last Thursday at Salem Stadium and a 40-0 victory over the Bobcats at Radford Middle School on Monday afternoon.
Wolverines who scored touchdowns in the William Byrd and Radford games were Pearce Oliver, Carter Webb, Zyere Richardson, Ian Rosier and Zaire Reynolds. Blocking for those who scored touchdowns were lineman Grant Martin, Maddox Saunders, Tyler Coe, Bruce Gibson, Donovan Huff, Elijah Regan, Wyatt Huffman, Ernest Burke and Lumen Campbell.
The Lewis defense was strong in both contests with Ryan Borzotra, Amir Franklin, Khaliel Cannaday and Lamikeal Stacy performing well.
The Lewis 7th grade team ran their record to 5-1 on the season with a 37-12 victory over Ben Franklin Middle School at Salem Stadium Monday. Aaron Brower performed well offensively by running for one touchdown, throwing for one and catching a pass for another score. Quarterback Maclin Hale threw the touchdown pass to Brower while Landynn Booth was on the receiving end of the Brower touchdown pass.
Running Backs Mayson Henderson and Graham Pollard added to the scoring with touchdown runs and two point conversions. Booth made a clutch interception on defense to help seal the win.
The 8th grade team will travel to Ben Franklin Middle for a 5 pm game today and the 7th grade team will be back in action today at 5:30 pm at Blacksburg Middle School.
