The Salem RidgeYaks baseball team had a great first homestand, going 7-2. However, the first road trip didn’t go as well.
Salem played a six game series at Hickory, a farm team of the Texas Rangers, and lost five straight games before pulling out the getaway game Sunday, 4-2. Four Salem pitchers went to the hill to stop the bleeding with Nicolas De La Cruz picking up the win.
Offensively, Luke Heyman, Avinson Pinto and Stanley Tucker had two hits each on Sunday. Starlyn Nunez had a triple and two runs batted in to pace the offense.
Salem returned home with an 8-7 record, falling to third place in the Carolina League’s North Division standings behind Fredricksburg and Hill City. They’ll have a chance to regain some ground this week with a six game homestand against Fredricksburg, which began Tuesday against the Nationals farm team.
This week’s promotions include Blue Collar and Agriculture Night tonight, Halfway to Halloween with fireworks on Friday, PBS Kids Night Saturday and a 2:05 on “Bark in the Park” game Sunday afternoon.
