First year Roanoke College lacrosse coach Grant Zimmerman won his first game at the helm last Saturday as the Maroons took a 17-8 win over Mary Washington in Fredricksburg.
Roanoke started strong, scoring the first five goals of the match with Julian Kammerman contributing two in that stretch. Kammerman led the Maroons with four goals and three assists on the day.
Four Maroons scored multiple goals, Patrick Cullen with three while Tyler Schmelzer, Jack Savoie, and Clayton Bewick had two each.
Ike Dutton led the Maroons defensively with seven ground balls and caused four turnovers. Noah Elazar scooped five groundballs and goalie David Hamilton made 17 saves in goal in his first collegiate contest.
The Maroons were scheduled to play their home opener on Wednesday against Averett but results were too late for publication. That was also RC’s first Old Dominion Athletic Conference game.
