The Salem and Glenvar sports teams are off for break this week, but several events were held before the athletes took off for parts unknown or just used the time to rest at home.

Last Thursday the Salem High baseball team dropped a 10-2 game at Hidden Valley with several Spartans missing. The loss was Salem’s second in a row after opening the season with nine wins. Noah Beckley had two hits for the Spartans.

The Salem softball team defeated Hidden Valley at the Moyer Complex, 5-2, behind a 12 strikeout performance from Haellie Gordon. Sammie Haga had four hits and Reagan Owens was two-for-three with a triple as Salem improved to 4-5 on the season.

In soccer, Abby Mason scored twice as the Spartans took a 4-0 win over Hidden Valley at Bruce Mahan Field in Roanoke County. Evyn Magenbauer and McKenna Habeeb also scored as Salem improved to 5-1.

The Salem boys dropped a 6-0 soccer decision to Hidden Valley at Spartan Field. The Salemites go into the break at 3-3-1.

Salem’s girls defeated Hidden Valley in tennis Thursday, 9-0, a day after the boys lost to the Titans, also 9-0. Glenvar played Parry McCluer with the girls falling 8-1. No score was reported for the boys.

Last Wednesday Glenvar’s soccer teams split with Auburn. The boys won 1-0 as Dakota Lamb scored the winning goal. The girls lost, 2-1, with Glenvar’s goal coming on a Kelci Horner header off a Kyleigh Drew corner kick.

Salem’s boys’ lacrosse team beat Liberty Christian Academy at Spartan Field last Wednesday, 13-3, to improve to 6-2 on the season. Evan McMillan had five goals and two assists, Zach Mason had three and two and Will Poldiak had three goals.

This Saturday Salem’s lacrosse teams will be back in action with a doubleheader at Monticello. A regular schedule of spring games resumes next week as the schools return from break.
