Randolph-Macon topped Roanoke College, 1-0, in the ODAC women’s soccer opener for both teams Saturday in Ashland, VA. The loss dropped the Maroons to 3-2-1.

The first 45 minutes of the match proved to be scoreless, with RC holding a slim 7-5 edge in shots. It stayed scoreless until the 65th minute when the Yellow Jackets’ Gabby Nelson scored to give the Jackets the only goal they would need.

Randolph-Macon held a 16-11 advantage in shots, including an 11-4 edge in the second-half.  R-MC also took the only eight corner kicks of the match.

Caroline Liebel had three stops for RC in net, while Christina Newman had three saves for the Yellow Jackets.

The Maroons were back on the road Wednesday for a match at Christopher-Newport. On Saturday RC will host Eastern Mennonite at 3 pm in a conference match for Family Weekend.
