Two Salem High golfers qualified for the state tournament on Tuesday but the team came up one spot short at the Ivy Hills Golf Course in Forest, VA.
The top two teams advance to the state Class 4 tournament and pre-tourney favorite Blacksburg didn’t disappoint with a team score of 300. Western Albemarle was next with a 304 and Salem was next at 315. Jefferson Forest took fourth with a 321.
“There were four really good teams playing for two spots,” said Salem coach Thad Snyder.
Senior Trey Joyce led the Spartans with a 76 and qualified for the state as an individual, as did sophomore Kathryn Ha with a 77. The other Salem scores came from Macy Johnson with an 80 and Andrew Rea at 82.
Joyce and Ha will play in the Class 4 state tournament at the Stonehenge Golf & Country Club in Richmond on Monday. Glenvar’s Jacson Shepherd will play in the Class 2 tournament at Olde Mill Golf Resort in Carroll County on Monday after qualifying in the Region 2C tournament last week.
