The Glenvar girls’ soccer team got a scare from Auburn on Monday but finished strong to remain undefeated. Glenvar won 5-2 at Highlander Stadium. The Highlanders had a 3-0 lead at the half before Auburn scored two quick goals midway through the second half to cut the lead to 3-2. However, Jules Stanley found the net for some insurance, then scored on a penalty kick after she was fouled in the box to put some icing on the cake. “It was a big battle for us and I’m very proud of our girls and the way they handled themselves,” said Glenvar coach Kyleigh Drew. “They could have folded when Auburn came out strong but they didn’t give up. It was a good team win to start off the week.”
Stanley finished with a three-goal hat trick. She scored the second goal of the game off an assist from Davin Tate, then had the two goals in the second half. Annie George had the first goal of the game, scoring just two minutes in off a corner kick from Tate. Campbell Hardin converted a penalty kick to put Glenvar up 3-0 at the half in what was a very physical game. With the win the Highlanders improved to 10-0 overall. The Highlanders were scheduled to play at James River on Wednesday and Friday they go to Radford.
