Salem’s Davon Jones(left) and Mitchell Taylor(right) compete in the 110 hurdles at William Byrd High School Saturday.
Taylor won the race and set a new school and meet record and Jones was fourth.

The Salem High track team competed at the “Terrier Team Challenge” on a chilly day in Vinton last Saturday. The meet was held at the William Byrd track at Patterson Stadium.

Salem’s Mitchell Taylor heated things up with a first place finish and a new meet and school record in the 110 hurdles, finishing in 14.29. Davon Jones was fourth in the race.

Justice English, Aedon Wiley and Nazeser Miller were 6-7-8 in the 100 dash and the 4×200 relay team of English, Jones, Miller and Wiley was first. The distance medley team of Austin Prosser, Grant Horner, Thomas Scharp and Isaac Snow was second.

Earning points in the girls’ competition were the third place 4×800 relay team of Harper Rocovich, Audrey Harmon, Addison Hancock and Caroline Huff and the fourth place 4×200 team of AvaSchifflet, Maekayla Scott, Zi’Leyah Haynes and Kaylyn Ross.

The Spartans were scheduled to run at Blacksburg on Wednesday and they’ll be at Hidden Valley Saturday.

Meanwhile, Glenvar was scheduled to run at Staunton River last week but the meet was cancelled due to a medical emergency. This week the Highlanders go to Alleghany today and to Emory & Henry on Saturday.
