The Salem High lacrosse teams took on Patrick Henry in the past week and split. The boys won at PH last Friday and the girls fell to the Patriots on Monday at Spartan Field.

It was a cold and rainy night at Merrill Gainer Field in Roanoke last Friday but the Spartans didn’t let it bother them as they took a big 9-6 win. The Spartans trailed 6-2 at the half but scored six unanswered goals in the third period and shut out the Patriots in the second half to get the win.

Holden Custer, Jack Wininger and Wade Marble had two goals each for the Spartans while Jackson Jones, Oliver Farber and Ty Hicklin had one each. Parker Dallas had four assists and defenseman Ronnie Frith had two assists and three takeaways. Richard Hof had five saves as the boys’ improved to 4-1.

The girls played on a much nicer night on Monday but fell to PH, 6-4. Salem went out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter but PH tied it up at 3-3 by the half and outscored Salem 3-1 in the second half.

Bailey Redford had 11 saves in the goal for Salem. Ann Thomas had a goal and two assists as the girls fell to 2-3.

The girls and boys will host Christiansburg in a varsity doubleheader tonight. The girls will start at 5:30 pm with the boys to follow.
