The Roanoke College baseball team hosted Hampden-Sydney for “Senior Day” Saturday and split with the Tigers. Roanoke won the first game, 11-8, but dropped the nightcap, 14-6.
In the opener Hampden-Sydney scored first but Roanoke responded with seven runs over the next two innings. HSC answered back to make it 8-7 going into the bottom of the ninth only to have RC’s Kyle Moshier walk it off with a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the ninth.
Thomas Burgess got the start for the Maroons, going six innings and fanning four. Trevor Orth added his fifth win of the season after throwing two innings of three hit ball while striking out one.
In the second game Liam Murphy led the squad with two hits and three RBIs as the Tigers earned a split. Murphy also hit his second homer of the day and seventh of the year in the loss.
The split left the Maroons at 18-13-1 for the season and 10-5-1 in ODAC games. They were scheduled to play at Ferrum Wednesday and Saturday they’ll host Shenandoah for a doubleheader. That will be played at Calfee Park in Pulaski with the Salem Red Sox at home.
