It was a tough week for the Salem High soccer teams as both the boys and girls lost games to Blacksburg and Hidden Valley. The Spartans will try to turn things around Friday when the girls host Christiansburg and the boys go there.
Last Friday at a rainy Spartan Field the Spartan boys lost to Blacksburg, 3-1. Blacksburg scored first off a long throw in but the Spartans answered when Anthony Rugama found Logan Lavinder for the tying goal. Blacksburg would take the lead back and eventually add a third late in the game for the final score.
“Our guys competed hard and played well, we just made one too many mistakes that we couldn’t overcome,” said Salem coach David Atkins.
On Tuesday at home Salem fell to 4-2 with a 1-0 loss to Hidden Valley. Salem outshot the Titans 15-3 but couldn’t find the net while Hidden Valley was able connect one time.
The Salem girls were shut out by the Bruins in Blacksburg last Friday, 3-0, and fell at Hidden Valley Tuesday, 3-1. Aly Price had Salem’s goal as the Spartans fell to 3-3 on the season.
