The Roanoke College baseball team will call Radford University their home this weekend when they host Virginia Wesleyan in a Saturday doubleheader at noon. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference twin-bill is at Radford since the Maroons’ usual home field in Salem is occupied by the Carolina League Salem RidgeYaks.
Saturday’s games will be the third trip to Radford this week for the Maroons. They were scheduled to play Guilford in an ODAC doubleheader there on Tuesday and Pfeiffer University in a non-conference game on Wednesday. Coming into the week the Maroons were 7-10 in ODAC games and 20-15 overall after sweeping Shenandoah University in Winchester last Saturday, 11-7 and 15-6.
In the first game Jack Fehlner hit his first homer of the season and the third of his career to level the score in the fifth. He also drove in what would be the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Dylan Bonzon and Kyle Tyrell each posted a team high three RBIs on two hits while Nate Prince, Tyler Galloway, and Liam Murphy joined Bonzon and Tyrell in putting up a pair of hits. Riley Fitzgerald struck out four over five innings of work to get the win.
In the nightcap Noah Donaho blasted two long balls in the game on his way to a three run, three hit, four RBI game. Murphy added a homer as a part of his three hit, two run, two RBI performance and Bonzon and Hayden Giordano also racked up three hits in the game. Derek Brooks earned his first career win and Clark Mileto picked up his third save.
Saturday’s doubleheader will wrap up the regular season for the Maroons. The ODAC tournament is scheduled to begin May 1.
