Black Label Society: Heavy metal powerhouse Black Label Society will bring its blistering riffs and high-energy performance to the Salem Civic Center on Tuesday, May 12. The band will be joined by openers Zakk Sabbath and Dark Chapel. Tickets can be found at the Salem Civic Center box office and through Ticketmaster.

Coffee with Council: Salem City Councilman Hunter Holliday host’s Coffee with Council every month in the Salem Library Community Room. Going into its eighth month it has connected over 300 Salem citizens directly with members of Salem City Council, City Administrators, and Directors. The goal of Coffee with Council is to foster open, honest dialogue about the issues that matter most to Salem residents. Whether it’s public safety, infrastructure, economic development, or quality-of-life concerns, these gatherings provide an accessible and informal space to ask questions, share ideas, and stay informed.

Upcoming Citizen Forums: Thursday, May 14 6:00 – 7:30 guests include Councilman John Saunders, Director of Parks & Recreation John Shaner, Interim- Director of the Salem Electric Department Kevin Divers. All events will be held at the Salem Public Library Community Room.

All Salem residents are encouraged to attend, enjoy a cup of coffee, pastry and be part of the conversation shaping our city’s future.

Parkside Picks: Roanoke County Parks, Recreation & Tourism will be holding Parkside Picks at Green Hill Park from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on May 16.

Poetry workshop for veterans: The Virginia Veterans Poetry Project will host a free poetry workshop for veterans on Saturday, May 16, from 1:45 to 3:45 p.m. at Raleigh Court Library, 2112 Grandin Road SW, Roanoke. Led by award-winning poet Mark Fryburg and Poetry Society of Virginia Western Regional Vice President Christina Linsin, the workshop will focus on the theme of perseverance and resilience and is open to veterans of all military branches and all writing ability levels. Gary Allan in concert — Multi platinum country artist Gary Allan returns to the Salem Civic Center on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. at the Salem Civic Center Box Office and at Ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices range from $14.92 to $134.75. A presale will be held Thursday, Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Ticketmaster.com with the code RUTHLESS.

Cub Scout Summer Day Camp: The Great Valley District of the Blue Ridge Mountains Council, Scouting America, will host a Cub Scout Summer Day Camp June 8-12 at Hope Tree Family Services, 931 Mt. Vernon Lane, Salem. The camp is open to youth entering first through fifth grade and will feature outdoor adventures, STEM activities, crafts, games, fishing, archery and nature programs. Tara Kelley serves as camp director.

The Dandelion Tour — Ella Langley will perform at the Salem Civic Center on Thursday, June 25, at 7 p.m., with special guests Dylan Marlowe and Gabriella Rose. Tickets range from $53.50 to $123.50 and go on sale Friday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. Tickets are available at the Salem Civic Center box office, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and online at Ticketmaster; additional fees may apply to online purchases.

Happy Trails Film & TV Festival: The Happy Trails Film & TV Festival will return to the Roanoke Valley June 26-28 with events centered at Community Church and a special side program at Pink Cadillac Diner. The festival promotes faith-friendly productions and raises money for cancer research. Film and television stars will meet fans and present new projects during a weekend featuring films, music, workshops, panels and a banquet. Award-winning performer Don Richmond will present a special Elvis-style performance. The 2026 event marks the festival’s ninth year and traces its roots to the RoVaCon media events that began 50 years ago in Roanoke County.

Justin Moore: Justin Moore will return to the Salem Civic Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27. The multi platinum country artist last performed in Salem in 2017 during his “Hell on a Highway” Tour with Dylan Scott. Known for hits including “This Is My Dirt,” “You, Me, and Whiskey,” “Small Town USA” and “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away,” Moore’s show tickets go on sale Friday, April 3, at 10 a.m. Prices start at $39.50. Tickets are available at the Salem Civic Center box office, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and online through Ticketmaster.

Foreigner: The rock band Foreigner will return to the Salem Civic Center this fall as part of its 50th anniversary tour celebrating five decades of performances since the group’s first rehearsal in 1976. The concert is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. The band last performed in Salem in May 2023, playing a sold-out show featuring many of its best-known songs. Tickets may be purchased at the Salem Civic Center box office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or online through Ticketmaster.

The Salem City School Board will meet at 7 p.m. on May 12.
