
The Salem High softball team picked up a big River Ridge District win last Friday when the girls defeated Blacksburg, 11-7 in extra innings. Salem is now 5-12 after losing to Hidden Valley in south Roanoke County Tuesday, 12-3.
Last Friday in Blacksburg Salemites had three home runs in the win. Piper Furmage sent two out of the yard and had three RBIs and Evie Van Liew had a grand slam for the Spartans. Freshman Kathryn Wise was three-for-four.
This game was tied at 7-7 after seven innings before Salem scored four in the top of the eighth. Kennedy Pinkerman went the distance on the mound to pick up the win.
The Spartans are back on the road Friday for a game at Christiansburg followed by a home game with Patrick Henry next Tuesday, May 12.
