The undefeated Glenvar girls had their closest game of the season Monday night when they edged James River in Buchanan, 1-0. Glenvar is now 14-0 after posting their ninth shutout of the season.
“Not our best complete game but the girls fought hard against a good James River team,” said Highlander coach Kyleigh Drew.
After a scoreless first half the Highlanders were awarded a free kick midway through the second half. Ryan Jones took the kick and Annie George was able to stick the ball in the goal for the only score of the night. Rhaya Kitt had 22 saves for James River while Frackelton had 14 for the Highlanders.
Last Thursday at home the Highlanders beat Carroll County, 6-0. That was a big win as the Highlanders needed overtime to beat the Cavaliers, 1-0, in their first meeting in Hillsville. Six different Highlanders score as Gabby Barba, Sawyer Wilson, Chloe Childers, Addison Conner, Ryan Jones and Logann Meadows all found the net.
A night later the girls played at Auburn and took a 5-1 non-district win. Barba had two goals and Wilson, Jones and George had one each.
The Highlanders are now off until next Monday when they host Patrick County.
