Salem City Schools received two CPR School Kits from the American Heart Association during the Salem School Board meeting on June 9, providing new resources for hands-on lifesaving training at Andrew Lewis Middle School and Salem High School.
School Board members and Superintendent Dr. Curtis Hicks accepted the kits, which will be used during the 2026-27 school year to teach students CPR skills and emergency response techniques.
The donation was made possible through funding provided by Roanoke-based Steel Dynamics.
Representatives from the American Heart Association attended the meeting to present the kits and recognize Salem City Schools for its support of the organization’s school-based fundraising and health education programs.
Kate Spyhalski, development director for school engagement with the American Heart Association, and Elizabeth Vail, senior development director for the Blue Ridge region, thanked Salem schools for participating in the Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge during the 2025-26 school year.
